Abstract: |
The evaluation identified a possible prehistoric pit alignment comprising five pits on an ENE-WSW alignment. In addition, an isolated prehistoric pit, a possible prehistoric ditch and residual prehistoric finds were recovered. Three medieval ditches, eleven undated features and five tree hollows were also recorded. Medieval pottery was also recovered which included table wares and locally produced cooking wares, and included possible imports from Stamford and London. The medieval assemblage ranged in date from as early as 10th-11th century to the 14th-15th century, and was directly comparable to an assemblage found at the Westbury Moat excavation in 1957. [Au] |
