Abstract: |
The assessment suggested that there may have been a medieval monastic grange on the site and that this formed part of an estate noted in the 17th century. Activities associated with the early post-medieval leather industry, particularly marked by pitting, were possibly represented within the study area. The site lay within the grounds of Petersfield House between 1730 and 1790, when ornamental ponds and two grandiose stable blocks were constructed as landscape features. Buildings were demolished in 1730 to make way for the grounds of the house. [Au] |
