Abstract: |
A trench-based evaluation was carried out in advance of a proposed housing development. The area evaluated was adjacent to the site of two previous phases of archaeological evaluation, which had identified elements of a Hadrianic wall fort, Aballava. Second century activity, principally consisting of linear features and a deep pit or well, was found to continue into the evaluation area; however, the density of features was significantly lower than that recorded in the previous evaluations, suggesting that the area formed an outlying part of the settlement.
