Abstract: |
Groundworks for the installation of column bases and cable trenches for CCTV were observed. They exposed a dirty brickearth layer, a grave and layers of uncertain date, and early modern and modern contexts. The grave was to the south of the present south-west corner of the St. Mary's churchyard wall. It was not excavated because the human remains were not threatened by the groundworks although a humerus and ribs were exposed. This find added to earlier evidence from the area indicating that the churchyard was used as a cemetery between the 8th and 19th centuries and that part of it lay outside the present churchyard wall.
