Abstract: |
Evaluation trenches excavated along the line of a road extension produced two prehistoric features, producing firm evidence of in situ settlement. A large oval pit produced an assemblage of 10 to 12 pottery vessels, charcoal and flints possibly dating from the Late Bronze Age-Early Iron Age. An alignment of a sunken trackway, containing artefacts of the same date, was also recovered. Palaeoenvironmental evidence was seen in large spreads of medium and large gravel and a watercourse. These deposits presumably derive from periodic flood deposits laid down by the stream during episodes of high energy water flow. [Au(adp)] |
