Abstract: |
The remains of a longhouse were discovered in the parish of Stawell. They were in a cultivated field to the east of Ford Lane and about a hundred and fifty feet north of the brook. The house was c. 75 feet long and 25 feet wide, with its major axis aligned approximately east west. Its date of construction was put in the mid to late-15th century and it appeared to have survived until the early 17th century. The lower end of the site had previously been used as a marl pit in or before the 13th century. [Au] |
