Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken during the removal of one damaged beech tree and the planting of a new one in the car park area of Stamford School (within the area of Lincolnshire SAM No. 256 - The Site of Brazenose College). The works required the excavaion of three holes. A mixed brown sandy loam containing modern finds appeared to be a dumped layer sprading across the whol site. This was interpreted as a levelling layer for garden construction and appeared to cover the whole site to a level of at least 0.9 metres. An early wall was identified within one of the holes, although it was difficult to determin whether this was a garden feature of part of the Brazenose College of Brazenose gate. [Au(adp)] |
