Abstract: |
An evaluation on a site proposed for redevelopment found modern disturbance and foundations in the area where the 1926 OS and earlier maps showed buildings. The Late Saxon settlement site, identified to the south of Cambridge Street during excavations in the early 1960s (Addyman,1973) was proven not to extend as far north as the present site and medieval front development did not extend this far along Cambridge Street. The high level of disturbance and truncated nature of the archaeological features made it unlikely that substantial remains would be encountered during the development, but it was noted that the developer should be aware of the presence of human remains, and the possibility of other burials on the site.
