Abstract: |
An evaluation was undertaken on the site proposed for a crematorium and associated services. A single shallow pit containing a significant quantity of Early Bronze Age (Beaker) pottery, some worked flints and possible burnt quern stone. The only other feature which could possibly be associated with this activity was a ditch which produced no datable material. In an area immediately north of the proposed access road a standing earthwork was identified. The results of the subsequent contour survey and trial trenching suggested that the earthwork represented a circular mound which had been truncated by a post-medieval ditch. Although no dating material was recovered it was considered that the feature might have been a prehistoric barrow. [Au(abr)] |
