Abstract: |
Trial trenches and test pits excavated down to the natural chalk located sediments at the edge of a Pleistocene (Ice Age) channel running across the extreme north-west of the site. This was interpreted as an old course of the Thames infilled with deposits dated to c.300,000 years Before Present (Oxygen Isotope Stage 9). Human activity of the Palaeolithic was represented by flint artefacts of the Acheulian type, rich mammal and fish species remains were also found. This was regarded as important evidence of early humans and the environment in they lived.[Au(abr)] |
