Abstract: |
A programme of archaeological investigation was undertaken including trench excavation and test pits to establish the extent of the demolished remains of a Victorian mansion, with an earlier Elizabethan phase. This was undertaken due to the proposal to reconstruct the building in it's original footprint. The results proved that the Elizabethan and most of the Victorian mansion had been largely destroyed during earlier demolition work. In some areas Victorian brick walls/footings survive, including a tower. [AIP] |
