Abstract: |
Two areas were archaeologically excavated in response to a condition attached to a planning application. In Area A, a series of pits and ditches were exposed. Amongst the features uncovered were several structure containing daub, fire-crazed flints and much fire-damaged ceramic material, some of which was datable to the last part of the Iron Age, and some of which was stylistically earlier type. The overall date range was c. 150BC - AD 70. Four structures were identified within the upper fills of a ditch and were interpreted as the remains of bread ovens or clamp/bonfire kilns, suggesting that the part-filled ditch had been re-used, presumably because in afforded some degree of shelter. Area B contained a large number of shallow pits and ditches containing potsherds as dated above. [Au(abr)] |
