Abstract: |
A watching brief was held over the construction of an access track to Lower (West) Candra on Bodmin Moor. Stripping along the route of the track was observed, and a boundary was excavated. The project was successful in minimising damage to archaeological remains, and enhanced information about the archaeology of Bodmin Moor. It helped define the layout of a prehistoric field system and provided detail of the construction of one of the boundaries; at the same time, through the identification of a posthole, raising questions about structural complexity. The results also indicated the possible effect on archaeological remains caused by compaction by vehicles crossing the moor, in this case resulting in the loss of evidence for buried soils.
