Abstract: |
Archaeological desk-based assessment and site inspection of the former Coates Viyella factory led to the conclusion that none of the buildings on the site were of listable quality or of any great architectural merit in a local context. Aspects of two of the buildings were of some academic interest in relation to the history of textile manufacture in the area although it was considered that this would not warrant retention of the buildings. It was recommended that the structures on site should be recorded prior to demolition as a matter of good practice. Consultation of the Leicestershire and Rutlands SMR indicated that the site lay outside of the historic core of Loughborough and that there were no recorded archaeological sites in the vicinity.
