Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment was undertaken within the area of the proposed Chattenden Great Park. This survey revealed few signs of prehistoric, Roman, medieval or post-medieval activity within the site boundary although sites of this date have been recorded within a 2km radius. A system of 20th century defences on the northern limits of the depot comprised pill boxes, communication trenches and gun sites and were recorded in the vicinity of Wybornes and Lodge Hill Wood, The area was largely under pasture which may have masked archaeological sites.
