Abstract: |
A watching brief during the constuction of a stretch of 18.5 kilometres of gas pipeline involved the investigation of 162 boundaries, mainly hedge-topped earth banks, breached along the course of the pipeline. In 31 cases an earlier phase was identified, usually a smaller bank which had been enlarged. Soils sealed below the banks were sampled to look for fossil pollens, although preservation was poor.
