Abstract:
A watching brief was held over work on 10,500m of water pipelines between the pumping station at Aldingbourne and the reservoirs at Little Heath and Chalkpit Lane, Lavant. Parts of the Sussex 'raised beaches' were seen south of the Little Heath Plantation and on both sides of the A27 north of Tangmere. A Mesolithic site was identified north-east of East Hampnett Farm and a prehistoric settlement site was found and part-excavated east of Chalkpit Lane. The Devil's Ditch (AM 82) was identified immediately west of Lavant Lodge and a section was cut through it. In addition, various finds and features ranging in date from Mesolithic to late post-medieval/modern, were recorded. [Au(abr)]
