Abstract: |
An archaeological assessment was undertaken to identify the archaeological resource along the route corridor of the proposed St Austell North East distributor road and assess the impact of the proposed development. The assessment consisted of a desk-based survey followed by a walk-over field survey. Thirty-seven archaeological sites were identified including one possible Bronze Age barrow, one possible prehistoric lynchetted field system and assorted medieval and post-medieval agricultural and industrial sites. The assessment identified where further evaluation work should be undertaken in order to clarify the nature of the archaeological resource and concluded with a gazetteer of sites along the route.
