Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of foundation trenches for new public conveniences, at a site which lay within the area of the original Saxon settlement of Stratford. A series of pits and post holes containing 11th century pottery had been excavated to the west of Avonbank Garden, in 1969. During the watching brief, a garden soil of 18th-19th century date was observed, and rubble which was probably demolition material associated with the destruction of a nearby Victorian villa was recorded.
