Abstract: |
The watching brief aims were to identify and record features relating to the north canal arm during excavation by machine, and to carry out a detailed survey of the visible canal arm . In addition it was hoped to ascertain the present relationship between the canal arm and any surviving elements of Brindley's 'clover leaf' weir. Exposure of the canal arm allowed a detailed record of the fabric to be satisfactorily undertaken. This revealed alterations made to the canal arm throughout the 19th century. Its relationship to the previous weir remained inconclusive owing to a lack of evidence for the preceding structure. [Au(abr)] |
