Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out at St Felicitas Church and identified on old land surface probably early medieval in date, producing 11th century pottery. Details of two coffin burials and a charnel pit were recorded as post dating the early medieval landscaping of the churchyard. Three floor levels were recognised. The upper layer was found with traces of mortar and tile dating to around the late 13th and 14th centuries. This implied that the lower floor layers were earlier. Landscaping in 1826 probably involved the clearance of medieval graves in this area. [Au(abr)] |
