Abstract: |
An archaeological field evaluation was undertaken. A single machine excavated trench was excavated to a depth of 2.5m in the location proposed for the construction of a silo. This trench was intended to examine any archaeological remains which may have been impacted by the development. The intention was also to investigate further the nature of an in-washed layer containing charcoal of possible Early Bronze Age date. This layer had been found to be present in a borehole survey and watching brief on sites in the immediate vicinity. No archaeological remains of any kind were discovered. The expected layer of charcoal in-wash was also absent-sediment descriptions indicated that this may have been because that portion of the site was somewhat dryer and possibly slightly raised from the surrounded ground at the time of the in-wash event.
