Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during groundworks for a residential development at a site which was crossed by the line of an earthwork, a bank and ditch associated with an Iron Age hillfort to the north-east. No trace of this was observed during the watching brief, although fragments of worked and burnt flint, perhaps dating from the Late Neolithic or the Bronze Age, were recovered. Part of a stone wall and an area of disturbed ground indicated the presence of a building, pre-dating an immediately adjacent building on a neighbouring site. This probably dated from the 18th or 19th century. Four sherds of 18th century or later pottery were recovered. [AIP] |
