Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation, comprising four trial trenches, was followed by a watching brief during the redevelopment of the site. The results of both the evaluation and watching brief were negative in archaeological terms. The evaluation indicated that this area of the site had undergone some degree of disturbance, but probably not sufficient to have removed all deposits of an archaeological nature; in fact in trial trench 2 undisturbed stratigraphy was encountered but without signs of archaeological activity. The area of the watching brief was similarly lacking in archaeological evidence, although it seemed highly likely that this area had sustained a greater impact from both the earlier development and the demolition process that preceded the present work on site.
