Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken during test pitting in the area of proposed development followed by observation of the foundation trenches after they had been hand excavated by the contractors. No significant archaeological deposits were excavated by the test pitting, though at the formation depth for the foundations, evidence for a possible wall was uncovered. Following excavation of the trenches by the contractor, the wall was recorded. It appeared to be a sandstone wall bonded with mortar, and was thought likely to be a post-medieval vennel wall, or boundary wall between different building plots. [Au(abr)] |
