Abstract: |
Trial trenching and a recording brief was undertaken on the proposed extension to sand and gravel extraction. Four trial trenches were excavated in the southern area of the site whilst a larger triangular area at the northern end of the site was the subject of a recording brief during the stripping of the topsoil. This was to clarify the potential of a single discrete anomaly recorded on a geophysical survey. A linear feature of modern date was encountered in Trench 1 and was possibly the remains of previous field drainage. No other archaeological features were encountered in the trial trenches. A former field boundary ditch visible on the 1884 OS map was recorded within the recording brief area. A rectangular pit also recorded may have been a modern test pit. [AIP] |
