Abstract:
The watching brief provided evidence to support the results of a bore hole survey, which showed that severe post-medieval truncation had probably taken place on the site. The watching brief test pits and the piles provided evidence from probable sand and gravel quarrying in isolated but frequent pockets over most of the archaeological area. These were then backfilled with domestic waste including ash, ceramic building material, clay pipes and pottery sherds. [Au]
