Abstract: |
A resistivity survey was carried out within part of a proposed development site. A series of old garden paths laid out in a formal pattern showed clearly to the south and west, and less clearly to the north and east. An area of high resistance near the north-eastern limit of the survey area lay close to the site of a glasshouse which appeared on earlier Ordnance Survey maps, and may have been related to this. A faint diagonal feature, possibly a pipe trench leading to or from the central well, ran through this feature. A second high resistance area conformed more closely to the site of an old glasshouse. It was concluded that there were no indications of the remains of any substantial stone structures within the area surveyed, although this did not preclude the possibility that archaeological features of a different nature could have been present.
