Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment identified that the proposal site was formerly part of the marsh at the confluence of the Rivers Avon and Frome. Part of the old Frome channel probably ran beneath the site. The site was occupied by a succession of hoopers in the 18th century, some of whom also operated warehousing on the site. In the 1920's, the Refuge Assurance Building was constructed, and although possessing basemented areas, casual archaeological finds had been recovered nearby to depths of up to 10 feet. [Auth adap] |
