Abstract: |
The Nancor Cross was a medieval Latin cross head set on a modern octagonal granite shaft and stepped granite base. On the cross head was a small figure of Christ with raised arms and an unusual halo, hat or fly-away hair. The cross was set up on a grass verge on the south side of a newly formed juntion on the A390 Truro to St Austell road. It was found lying on the ground after having been apparently hit with an unknown heavy object which had broken the shaft. The cross was repaired and re-erected using funds from Cornwall Archaeological Unit's then recently established budget for conservation work to scheduled monuments. [AIP] |
