Abstract: |
Observation of the two small pits at the workshop provided some useful archaeological information. Enough of the foundations were exposed to suggest two phases of construction, confirming early map evidence. The entrance to the 19th century sally port was also located. A re-used piece of Caen stone, probably derived from a medieval building in the town, was built into one of the foundations of the workshop. Neolithic or Bronze Age flintwork was recovered form undisturbed clay laters below the workshop, implying settlement. [Au(abr)] |
