Abstract: |
The assessment was undertaken of the part of the site of the former airfield in order to inform the archaeological implications of proposals to develop the site for bark processing and storage use. No firmly dated archaeological features or artefacts had been identified from within the area of the proposed development, although one potentially prehistoric cropmark feature was visible on aerial photographs on the north-western boundary of the site. Features associated with the Second World War airfield had also survived near the development area. The extant airfield perimeter track formed the eastern boundary of the site, and immediately beyond this were several standing airfield buildings. [Au(abr)] |
