Abstract: |
Watty's Wharf was situated on the side of the creek that was believed to have been an unloading point for building materials and visitors to Glasney College, a religious house established in the 13th century. An archaeological desktop assessment was undertaken in response to a planning application for the conversion of properties on the site into waterside dwellings. Evidence from cartographic sources and a previous excavation at Anchor warehouse suggested that a number of infilling episodes were to be expected, some possibly dating to before the creation of quays in the 18th century. Traces of medieval quays and/or mooring posts may have been possible, along with artefacts representing all periods of activity. There was good potential for palaeoenvironmental deposits. [Au(abr)] |
