Abstract: |
An evaluation trench was excavated in the churchyard next to the south wall of the chancel to accommodate a central cantilever buttress. The depth of the foundations of the south wall were established, and it was also demonstrated that the wall was stepped to take into account the falling ground level at its eastern end. A burial of the late 19th century was discovered and was re-interred against the east wall of the chancel. The south wall had disturbed the skeleton of a child which pre-dated the construction of the wall in the first half of the 13th century. The architectural history of the church was also reassessed.
