Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of three stanchion base pits inside the ground floor of a building, at a site which lay close to Norwich Castle, a SAM. Deposits infillig the valley of the Great Cockey srteam and an extensive layer of flint rubble and lime mortar demolition rubble were recorded. Although none of the pits yielded any dating evidence, it appeared that the demolition material may have been the result of a historically attested late 17th century phase of redevelopment. The Cockey Valley infilling material may have related to the 18th century culverting of the stream. [Au(adp)] |
