Abstract: |
Excavations were carried out within the grounds of Bolsover Castle, in order to investigate previous path layouts. Evidence for the former appearance of the fountain garden was recorded, and limestone metalling was revealed in the Great Court. It was found that the existing stairway from the Terrace Range had originally been more elaborate, and that the Terrace appeared to have been laid out with a metalled drive. The original width of the carriageway could not be determined. A small amount of medieval pottery was found, in association with later material; 19th century and modern pottery was also recovered.
