Abstract: |
The evaluation was undertaken of the site as part of a programme of archaeological investigations along the route of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link. A total of six trenches were excavated and no archaeological features were identified. A feature located in the most easterly of the trenches was identified as part of the old course of the East Stour River, which had been filled in during the construction of the present motorway. Further investigation of this feature revealed the remains of at least three more archaic stages to this river course, dating from the late post-medieval period. [Au(abr)] |
