Abstract: |
Archaeological recording in advance and during the construction of the Probus bypass centred on the detailed investigations of a couple of previously unknown prehistoric sites within enclosed farmland in Probus Parish. Both sites were found by geophysical survey. One was a possible enclosure of Late Neolithic date which produced an unusual assemblage of Grooved Ware. The other excavation was of a well-preserved Bronze Age Barrow at Trelowthas Manor Farm. The results of these investigations highlighted the value of well-targeted geophysical survey in areas of lowland Cornwall - as the detailed investigations contributed significantly to the collective knowledge of the history of land-use in the area during early prehistory.
