Abstract: |
The Watching Brief was carried out during foundation trenches for a new residential building. All the deposits above the natural chalk levels were modern to a depth of 1.6m below present ground surface. This suggested that the area within and around the development area had been reduced in level and then material mainly chalk, brought back onto the site and levelled. This disturbance could have been landscaping associated with the cutting of the railway lines. Given the depth of disturbance in the area it was seen as unlikely that the buried archaeological resource would have been affected by the development. [Au(adp)] |
