Abstract:
Three trial trenches were excavated as an evaluation of the proposed site of an access road and houses. A total of 16 features provisionally identified as pits, post pits and ditches were exposed. Following partial excavation of eight features, a total of 17 potsherds were recovered, of which 12 were dated to the Mid to Late Iron Age, and five to the late post-medieval period. All Iron Age potsherds were found in associated with bunt flints (pot boilers) and derived from four features, while five features contained 'pot boilers' but no potsherds. Carbonised particles were present in all ten features containing Iron Age potsherds/burnt flint. The post-medieval material all derived from a single feature, which sample excavation showed to be the remains of a back-filled 19th century ditch also containing tile, brick and glass fragments.
