Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment was undertaken to determine the archaeological implications of a proposed development. In addition an earthwork survey and a geophysical survey were undertaken. Documentary sources revealed that the site lay within an area where evidence of prehistoric and Romano-British occupation had been recorded. Evidence suggested that Dunholme was probably established in the Anglo-Saxon period, and evidence of the medieval occupation of the area had been found. The development site itself revealed cropmark evidence, confirmed by geophysical survey, of buried features suggesting a prehistoric or Romano-British field system on the eastern part of the site.
