Abstract: |
The evaluation was undertaken ahead of proposed residential developments in an area of high archaeological potential. It was successful in fulfilling the objective of revealing clear signs of archaeological remains at the site. A 'background' of Neolithic/Bronze Age activity was represented by struck flint flakes, and a polished flint chisel. No Iron Age, Roman or early medieval finds were encountered. The archaeological deposits also suggested three separate zones of medieval activity, the zones being echoed by the site's present divisions. Features relating to medieval cultivation in the form of boundary ditches and a furrow cut. Possible medieval/early post-medieval property boundaries; and features relating to the 'back-yard' disposal of rubbish and waste in the form of pits. [Au(adp)] |
