Abstract:		 An evaluation was carried out on land at Guildford Street, Chertsey on the site of Phase 6 of the Chertsey Revitalisation Scheme, the site of a proposed new office and residential development. The evaluation was recommended due to the location of the site within an Area of High Archaeological Potential, designated for the presumed medieval settlement area, near the watercourses and the main street frontage. Well preserved stratigraphy revealed was clear evidence of medieval and later occupation on the site from the late 13th century onwards. It was considered possible that the site may represent part of the high medieval suburb of Styvington, the existence of which had previously been postulated. The evidence for prehistoric activity was of interest as well, and further investigation of the site prior to its redevelopment was recommended. [Au(adp)]
