Abstract: |
<summary>Documentary, map and aerial photographic research was carried out in response to the proposed road scheme. This exercise located evidence for a Roman small town, with associated roads and features, within the study area. A substantial group of metal artefacts, all dating to the Roman period except for one Iron Age coin, had previously been found at the site. Pre-Roman flints had also been recovered from both the site and the river. Examination of crop marks revealed a number of linear systems and part of a Roman marching camp, possibly indicating a military origin for the site. {italon}AIP{italoff} {italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} SUS005 |
