Abstract: |
A desk-based study of the proposed development of part of the site of Dibden Farm as a restaurant identified that Dibden was an important estate within the parish of Mangotsfield during the 18th and 19th centuries, although it was unclear when Dibden became a separate estate within the manor of Rodway. Dibden farmhouse, built c.1640 was probably erected on the foundations of an earlier building. Dibden barn originally comprised three separate elements, which extended west of the present boundary wall into the western yard. Only the eastern building survived and appeared to have been the earliest part of the range with elements of 16th or early 17th century date. A lane dating at least from the medieval period joined Dibden lane a little to the north of the farmhouse. [Au(adp)] |
