Abstract: |
A single evaluation trench was excavated on land proposed for redevelopment. Early activity on the site was represented by finds of three flint flakes of prehistoric date and pottery fragments of Roman date. Concentrations of pennant sandstone and abraded pottery suggesting some form of mounded features, which began to build up in the 12th century until at least the 14th century, were revealed, and it was suggested that part of the site was laid out in strip lynchets behind structures which fronted onto St Michael's Hill. Garden boundary walls of 18th and 19th century date and structural and demolition remains of a chapel and bungalow were also identified.[Auth adap] |
