Abstract: |
Thirteen trenches, 1280m squared, were excavated. The remains of a Roman road were revealed in two trenches, the road consisted of gravel over a cobble rich layer of redeposited subsoil, contained within a cut. One other trench contained a ditch that yielded relatively modern finds. This road, had been identified in the assessment as the Manchester to Carlisle Roman Road, SMR No. 11055. Three other sites, an enclosure cropmark, a ruined building that has been demolished and a polished stone axe were also identified as within 500m of the site. [Au(adp)] |
