Abstract: |
An area of land, measuring c.100m by 45m, located adjacent to a possible Iron Age earthwork, had been stripped of topsoil and subsoil without planning permission or landowners permission. The stripped area included two areas of cultural value that were to have proposed archaeological constraints placed on them. The archaeological intervention was requested to assess the extent of damage to the archaeological deposits and to aid in determining a strategy for remedial works. An area on the edge of an earthwork thought to have been Iron Age had previously been machine stripped; this was hand and machine cleaned. Slots were dug through the outer enclosure ditch. No other features were found. [Au(adp)] |
