Abstract: |
A desktop survey was undertaken, which involved a walkover survey of the proposed development area, a check for historic hedgerows and the analysis of data obtained from a ground conditions survey, engineering test pits and boreholes. The archaeological potential of the proposed development site was high in regard to the Roman road and therefore unmitigated development could have had a significantly high effect. The find of two Roman coins in the vicinity of Haigh Cross in the last century were not considered significant and would have no constraints upon the proposed development. Two further potential archaeological sites were detected as a result of the aerial photographic searches. A trapezoidal shaped cropmark may represent a potential constraint upon any proposed development and should be further investigated by archaeological evaluation prior to any development. The two Listed Buildings were to be preserved and their settings improved by associated landscape. The significance of effect was considered to be neutral. [Au(adp)] |
