Abstract: |
The assessment identified that the area of the Arndale Centre and Cannon Street had been extensively excavated with the exception of four areas, all of which were considered to have a relatively low archaeological potential. Most of the site had not been built on until the 18th century, although properties had existed along its northern edge by the 16th century. One property believed to have dated from this period or earlier had been demolished as late as 1957. Part of its location was reported to have not been excavated, indicating an archaeological potential. It was recommended that a watching brief should be carried out in the area of the former Cannon Street Chapel site, which could potentially contain human remains. [AIP] |
